I feel a very strong link between sex and work. There is something so erotic in an office: To charm enough to make money, same old tricks, whatever the sell is.

Ego, Sex, and Chaos

These are porn addicts, and we are talking shame and guilt. Their feelings can become so intense that they come to have suicidal thoughts. This intensity, that can be extremely serious, is used in this business to make money. A lot of money.

It is a chaotic fall, all melted with a negative ego, and reinforced by a dramatic spiral effect fed at the office. The more you connect to the “Love” platform, the more negativity grows, increasing bad feelings and feeding the ego.

Love, Hate, and Porn

That is the Ego-erotic Triptych: A negative voice in their head telling them that they are worthless, unlovable, and should be ashamed of their actions. This voice is full of anger and hatred — some bad actions have to come from it.

My summer soap opera is set in Lower Manhattan. It is a story full of love, hate too, and all the porn that goes with it. In a French film called La Haine (Hatred) shot in 1996 in the Paris suburbs, the movie begins with this dark humor joke:

It’s about a guy who falls off a 50-storey building. On his way down past each floor, he keeps telling himself “So far so good… So far so good…” “So far so good.” But it’s not how you fall that matters. It’s how you land.

Second part, Tomorrow

The first part, named Morning Paradise, was published last Monday. The next part, Afternoon Purgatory will be published tomorrow morning, same place, in the excellent and x-perimental Agency Magazine. Night Hell will then complete the triptych.
